D-Block

People wander along the cell block hypnotized by the audio tour. Their audio is out of synch and at first glance, their movements look random. But there is a sloppy choreography as each moves to the spot where they are told to stand. The closer you are standing to someone the more in sync your audio. Of course regular elevator distribution rules also remain in effect.

In the shadows I see hands gripping the bars from the inside. An occasional face pops through as well. Kids faces are small enough to place between the bars. There are two horizontal lines across the bars where the paint has been worn away. The top line is adult height and the bottom is for kids.

  1. “The closer you are standing to someone the more in sync your audio.” A real-world observation of the First (Tobler’s) Law of Geography.
